NVAO and VSEPS Affiliation

A stronger future for ophthalmology in Virginia. NVAO has officially affiliated with the Virginia Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons to better serve ophthalmologists, trainees, practices, sponsors, and patients across Northern Virginia and the Commonwealth.

Why this affiliation matters

Ophthalmologists across Virginia face common challenges: legislative and regulatory issues, practice management pressures, patient access concerns, payer complexity, and the need for high-quality professional education. By working together, NVAO and VSEPS can better support members at both the local and statewide level.

NVAO remains focused on the Northern Virginia ophthalmology community. VSEPS brings statewide advocacy, broader reach, and organizational support. Together, the two organizations can do more for members than either could do alone.

What members gain

Simpler membership

Members benefit from a more streamlined membership structure connecting them with both NVAO and VSEPS. This reduces fragmentation and makes participation in organized ophthalmology easier.

Stronger advocacy

VSEPS leads statewide advocacy on legislative and regulatory issues affecting ophthalmology. Through this affiliation, NVAO members gain a stronger connection to advocacy efforts that protect the profession and support patient access to safe, high-quality eye care.

Expanded education

The affiliation supports continued educational programming in Northern Virginia, including an annual VSEPS-hosted educational event in the region. Members gain access to broader programming while preserving NVAO's local educational and networking role.

Better coordination

The affiliation improves coordination around member records, dues administration, communications, and organizational planning. This creates a more efficient structure behind the scenes without burdening members with unnecessary complexity.

Local voice, statewide influence

NVAO will have direct representation on the VSEPS Board of Directors. This ensures that Northern Virginia ophthalmologists have a meaningful voice in statewide ophthalmology leadership.

A unified profession

This affiliation helps ophthalmologists across Virginia speak with greater clarity and strength on issues that matter: patient safety, ethical practice, access to care, professional standards, and the future of ophthalmology.

Member benefits at a glance

  • One streamlined membership connection to both NVAO and VSEPS
  • Stronger advocacy on state legislative and regulatory issues affecting ophthalmology
  • Continued local NVAO identity, events, and community-building
  • Expanded educational programming, including an annual Northern Virginia event
  • Better coordination of member records, communications, and dues administration
  • Direct NVAO representation on the VSEPS Board of Directors
  • A stronger, more unified physician voice for patient care, access, and the profession

What is not changing

NVAO's local identity, community, and mission remain central. The goal is not to lose what makes NVAO valuable, but to strengthen it through better statewide alignment. Members should continue to expect local connection, collegial events, and practical value from NVAO, now supported by a broader statewide partnership.

Bottom line

The NVAO–VSEPS affiliation gives members a stronger organization, a simpler membership experience, better advocacy, expanded education, and a more unified voice for ophthalmology in Virginia.
