Privacy Policy

Last updated June 8, 2026. This policy explains how the Northern Virginia Academy of Ophthalmology ("NVAO," "we," "us") handles information collected through nvaomd.org.

Information we collect

We collect information you voluntarily provide when you contact us, register for events, submit a membership application, or log CME credits. This may include your name, email, phone, professional credentials, and practice details. We also collect limited technical information automatically, such as IP address, device and browser type, referring URL, and pages viewed.

How we use information

  • To respond to inquiries and provide member services.
  • To register attendees and administer CME records.
  • To send event, educational, and organizational updates.
  • To maintain site security and improve our content.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use only essential cookies and local storage required for the site to function (for example, to remember your cookie preferences). We do not use cross-site advertising trackers. Where applicable, we honor browser-based privacy signals including Global Privacy Control (GPC) as a valid request to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information.

Third-party services

We rely on a small number of vendors to operate this site. These providers process limited data on our behalf under their own privacy terms:

  • Lovable Cloud (hosting, content delivery, and serverless functions).
  • Google Fonts (font delivery; receives IP address to serve font files).
  • Email providers used to deliver messages you send to contact@nvaomd.org.

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to opt out of any sale or sharing. To exercise these rights, see our Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information page or email contact@nvaomd.org. We recognize Global Privacy Control as an opt-out signal.

Health information

NVAO is a professional society and does not provide medical care. We do not collect protected health information (PHI) through this site. Please do not submit patient information via our forms or email.

Data retention and security

We retain information for as long as needed to provide services and to meet legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect the information we hold; no method of transmission over the Internet is fully secure.

Children

This site is intended for medical professionals and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
